Background - Packarena
Horse Arena's for dressage events come in two sizes - 60m x 20m (professional) and 40m x 20m (junior & training). Many of the existing solutions in NZ make use of 50mm PVC piping that come in 6m lengths. The PVC piping is raised 250mm above the ground by using 'Arena Stands' spaced between 2m and 3m apart and provides the arena for horses and riders to compete.
The Challenge
Each of the horse arena's (professional & recreation sizes) require 27 & 20 (respectively) lengths of 6m PVC piping. This is not only heavy but very difficult to transport (requiring in most instances a specialised trailer).
The Solution
Packarena is a replacement for the PVC pipe surround and is the latest solution from the Packaworld stable. The arena is packaged in TWO wheelie bags (90cm x 41cm x 41cm - weighing approximately 23kg each) and leverages off its inflatable technology that provides a portable and safe solution that is quick and easy to set up. Each arena comes in 4 x separate pieces of 53mm diameter hose (2 x Frames; 2 x Gates), which takes around 6mins (for one person) to inflate.
Once inflated the hose becomes rigid and then raised above the ground using Arena Stands (these are readily available from existing dressage arena suppliers - excluded from the Packaworld solution). |
Packarena testing
Pictures follow of a 40m x 20m Packarena sample. The test used 1 x Frame to prove the ease of set up and provides to show the look and feel of what the final product will look like. Please note that cardboard wine boxes were used in the absence of proper arena stands.
The result - each frame took 2m 51s to inflate using the hand pump supplied. The boxes were spaced 2.25m apart (recommended distance) which provided good support and a fence line that was horizontal - 3m spacing was tested but provided slight sag in fence line.
