The portable goals helping goalball to grow in Germany

14/4/2022

A disability sports club in north-east Germany is using Goalball Packagoals to create opportunities for blind and visually impaired athletes at schools and public events.

The portability of the inflatable goals is making it easy for the Greifswalder Sportgemeinschaft 01 e.V. (GSG01) goalball section, known as the Greifswald Pikes, to bring goalball to people who haven’t had the opportunity to experience the joy of the Paralympic sport in the past.

They held a goalball open training day in Greifswald on 2 April as part of ‘Catching up after Corona’ – a programme set up by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth to step-up schooling and activities people have missed out on during the pandemic.

Special Olympics Hutt Valley football shooting on target for Summer Games

1/4/2022

No more shooting between cones or through fluro training bibs lying on the ground. A Special Olympics programme in New Zealand is taking its football training to the next level with a set of new Packagoals from Packaworld International.

The portable goals are being used by the Special Olympics Hutt Valley to prepare for a local Tier 1 Football Tournament in May and then the big one later in the year – the Special Olympics National Summer Games in Hamilton from 8-12 December.

Mark Cullen, head coach of the Special Olympics Hutt Valley football programme, says the team is delighted with their new Football Packagoals.

The water polo club 'carrying the ball' for young players in New York City

22/3/2022

A New York water polo club has survived the impacts of Covid-19 and continues to “hustle” in and out of the water to win games and win over new fans of the sport.

Brooklyn Water Polo Club is one of three remaining clubs in the city of nine million following the pandemic. Founded by Carl Quigley in 1979, the club known to many as the ‘Brooklyn Hustle’ has continued to thrive with the help of a determined group of parent volunteers.

The club recently ordered two Junior Water Polo Packagoals to support and grow their youth programs made up of around 85 boys and girls – ages eight to 18.

Michael Randazzo, Brooklyn Hustle club administrator, says the size and portability of the Packagoals were key factors in their decision.

Unified bocce ball on a roll in Maryland

17/2/2022

Bocce is bouncing back in Maryland with the help of portable courts and a unified sports program that brings athletes with intellectual disabilities together with star footballers and other non-disabled peers.

The program is run by Special Olympics Maryland and many of the state’s public schools, which are using the high-quality inflatable courts from Packaworld to run bocce events at high schools, as well as community-based programs for children and older Special Olympics athletes.

"Bocce has become cool,” says Mike Myers, Baltimore Region Director for Special Olympics Maryland.

Portable bocce courts setting students up for success in Taiwan

2/2/2022

It’s the Year of the Tiger, and students at a special education school in Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) have been developing cat-like reflexes through bocce ball.

Since the end of 2021, National Miaoli Special Education School has been using portable Packabocce courts from Packaworld to run a school-based program that encourages students to be active, work as a team and develop important social skills in an engaging and fun way.

Yuchun Hung, a teacher at the school, is a big fan of bocce’s ability to create positive educational outcomes.

“Compared to other physical activities, bocce is easier to play,” she says. “It’s a very common sport in special schools in Taiwan.”

Packaworld fields help bring new beach water polo tournament to Perth

31/1/2022

The inaugural Delfina Cottesloe Cup beach water polo tournament was a scorching success.

Organised to raise awareness of water polo and bring University of Western Australia (UWA) and Fremantle together prior to the National League season, the 22 January tournament saw 210 players battling it out in 40C heat at Cottesloe Beach in Perth.

Local celebrities got amongst the action – some for their first ever water polo game – in an exhibition match featuring Australian water polo Olympians Andrew Ford, George Ford and Liz Parnov, and AFL players Sean Darcy, Griffin Logue and Will Schofield.

Two Packaworld inflatable water polo fields and two sets of Packagoals hosted six junior teams, eight senior teams as well as the celebrity match and Men’s National League clash between Fremantle and UWA.
