The portable goals helping goalball to grow in Germany

14/4/2022

A disability sports club in north-east Germany is using Goalball Packagoals to create opportunities for blind and visually impaired athletes at schools and public events.

The portability of the inflatable goals is making it easy for the Greifswalder Sportgemeinschaft 01 e.V. (GSG01) goalball section, known as the Greifswald Pikes, to bring goalball to people who haven’t had the opportunity to experience the joy of the Paralympic sport in the past.

They held a goalball open training day in Greifswald on 2 April as part of ‘Catching up after Corona’ – a programme set up by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth to step-up schooling and activities people have missed out on during the pandemic.

"Bocce has become cool,” says Mike Myers, Baltimore Region Director for Special Olympics Maryland.

Portable bocce courts setting students up for success in Taiwan

2/2/2022

It’s the Year of the Tiger, and students at a special education school in Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) have been developing cat-like reflexes through bocce ball.

Since the end of 2021, National Miaoli Special Education School has been using portable Packabocce courts from Packaworld to run a school-based program that encourages students to be active, work as a team and develop important social skills in an engaging and fun way.

Yuchun Hung, a teacher at the school, is a big fan of bocce’s ability to create positive educational outcomes.

“Compared to other physical activities, bocce is easier to play,” she says. “It’s a very common sport in special schools in Taiwan.”

The portable courts helping bocce thrive in New Zealand’s capital city

23/11/2021

Portable bocce ball courts are from Packaworld are helping to pump up bocce participation in one of the world’s windiest cities.

Special Olympics Wellington has purchased two Competition Packabocce courts to help grow bocce in New Zealand’s capital and to ensure players can train in all weather.

Bert Warda, the head bocce coach at Special Olympics Wellington, says the high-quality inflatable courts are helping athletes maximise training sessions for future competition.

“It’s fantastic to be able to take them indoors or outdoors depending on the conditions, and the timing is perfect as our region’s bocce players prepare for the Special Olympics National Summer Games in Hamilton in December 2022.”

Packaworld announces ‘Bring VI Rugby to the Paralympic Games’ campaign

2/9/2021

Packaworld has launched a campaign to bring Visually Impaired Rugby to Paralympic Games.

Run with the support of UK Charity The Change Foundation, the campaign aims to raise the profile of the sport and further its case to be played at the Paralympic Games in future.

“Rugby is a way of life where we are based in New Zealand,” says Packaworld Chief Executive Peter Roberts.

“We’d love to see pathways created for our rugby-mad visually impaired athletes to compete at the highest level globally. If we can get a full scrum of supporters packed down behind us, there’s no telling where the sport can go.”

Portable court brings bocce culture to Italian language class at US school

23/8/2021

An impassioned video pitch from a group of students studying Italian at a school in the USA has led to the donation a Mini Packabocce court to support hands-on language and culture lessons.

The high-quality inflatable bocce ball court was provided to Hazlet Middle School in Monmouth County, New Jersey, after Italian teacher Antonia Gazzillo and her students made a personal plea to Packaworld CEO Peter Roberts, asking for a court to use in their classes.

Ms Gazzillo said she was keen to harness bocce ball to bring a touch of Italian culture into students’ lessons, keeping them engaged and in a fun and social way.

“I’ve always wanted to play bocce with my students,” she said. “The past year has been a real challenge because of Covid-19 and I wanted to be able to offer this experience to my students as there were class trips we could not go on.
